The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Program
The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Program is one of the best known and the oldest scholarship programs organized by the Rotary Foundation. Established in the year 1947, more than 30,000 men & women from over hundred countries across the world have received sponsorships under this program. At present, The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Program is said to be the largest privately financed international scholarship program in the world. More than one thousand two hundred scholarships have been awarded for educational purpose in the year 2000-2001.
Through the scholarships which add up to 26 million US dollars, several recipients from 69 countries get a chance to study in various universities from 64 nations. One of the main goals of offering Ambassadorial scholarships to the recipients is to enhance the relationship and understanding among the people from across the world. This program has sponsored and will be sponsoring students along with well trained professional who have pursued vocational education. When these scholars are away from their country they serve as goodwill ambassadors to the people of that country.
Once they return back home, these scholars share their experience with their fellow rotary members, which led to better understanding between both the countries. There has also been generous contributions from the Rotary members from across the world representing continuous faith which the students who as the Ambassadors in today’s world will be world and community leaders tomorrow. For more than 150 years the rotary foundation’s scholarship program has been helping number of students and professionals from across the world.
Through this particular program, more than 800 scholarships were being awarded to students for their education in the year 2005-2006. Through these scholarships which added up to 500 million US dollars, several recipients from more than 70 countries did receive scholarships to study in 70 nations worldwide. This number has been increasing year by year since this scholarship program is famous not just among students but also among the well trained professionals all over the world. International Programs Director at the University of Idaho, Mr. Michael Whiteman said that the Rotary Foundation’s Ambassadorial Scholarship Program has been doing a terrific job.
This program is not just providing a great opportunity to the younger generation of today to become leaders in their profession tomorrow but also building a better relationship among the countries. This will further enhance the economical and industrial relationships among the countries. Indeed, it is one of the best scholarship programs ever provided by any other organizations in the world. Students from different countries and different geographical backgrounds visit other countries fulfill their desires of receiving higher education and pursuing a career which they had never ever expected without these scholarships.
As the main purpose of this program is to build friendly relationship, it is ready to sponsor more students in the coming years through its different types of scholarship programs. These scholarships are sponsored to several graduate students as well as undergraduate students along with highly qualified professional who have pursued vocational studies.
